OUR Conscious Journey
Veronica Tharmalingam’s conscious practice is founded on values passed down through the generations by the craftsmen who have shaped our heritage.
Our quest for quality and sustainable practices stem from the communities we belong to and the natural materials that shape our design.
Having grown up In India, our founder understands the consequences of fast-fashion and has made a concerted effort to step away from practices that perpetuate the adage that one could tell the “ it' color of the season by looking at the color of the rivers."
This is one of the many reasons that conscious creation is close to our hearts and homes.
We are passionately committed to driving positive sustainable change. We strive to deliver collections that are ethical and sustainable and make a concerted effort to integrate sustainable practices into every step of our supply chain and business operations.
The duty to mitigate our environmental impact and initiate positive social change is a top priority and integral part of our business journey.
We strongly focus on using natural fibres and locally sourced fabrics wherever possible. We strive to consciously create “forever” pieces for our customers that last a lifetime. We do not hold warehouses of excess stock and endeavour to create minimal waste with every collection by working closely with our atelier to deliver made-to-order pieces.
Our Policy
Veronica Tharmalingam recognises its obligation to ensure that suppliers are operating ethically. We worked closely with our 5-person ateliers in the outskirts of Mumbai, Each person is employed for their own savoir-faire and specially vetted for fair working conditions and wages.
The designer visits the ateliers every few months and only works with ateliers and craftsmen’ that she has personally hand picked.
All craftsmen are expected to comply with their national employment laws and regulations with particular regard to:
- Minimum age of employment
- Freely chosen employment
- Health and safety
- Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining
- No discrimination
- No harsh or inhumane treatment
- Working hours
- Rates of pay
Because of the sometimes complex nature of our craftsmans' supply chain, it is not always possible to monitor and control the conditions of each individual involved in the production of our products.
However, as Veronica Tharmalingam continues to grow it recognises the importance of being proactive and doing everything within its power to support the rights of those involved in the crafting of each piece.
Today, more than ever, being connected to our heritage, atelier and natural materials remain at the heart of everything we do and an integral piece of our commitment to conscious craftsmanship.
